If you need help now
If you are thinking about hurting yourself, or you are not safe, please reach out right now.
- Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline in the US. It is free, private and open 24/7.
- In an emergency, call 911.
- Outside the US, call your local emergency number.
Sola is not a crisis service, a doctor or a therapist.
When you mention a crisis in Ask Sola
Before a message leaves your phone, Sola checks it on your phone for signs that you may be in crisis. If it finds them, the message is not sent to the AI. Instead, Sola shows a short, kind reply and a card with 988 and 911.
When this happens, Sola saves a simple flag on our servers that says a crisis card was shown. The flag does not include what you wrote, and it is deleted after 30 days.
How the AI coach behaves
- Ask Sola is an AI, not a person. It can make mistakes.
- It only suggests. Habits, to-dos, notes and project changes appear as cards, and nothing changes until you tap.
- It does not give medical advice. Talk to a doctor about your health.
- Ask Sola has daily limits on how much it can be used.
Teens
Sola is for ages 13 and up. When you first open the app, it asks what year you were born. On recent iPhone software, you can let Apple share your age range instead.
Teens get the same app with safer defaults:
- Anonymous usage stats are turned off.
- Sola does not build a profile from your journal.
- Chats with Ask Sola remind you that you are talking to an AI, not a person.
- After three hours of chat in a day, Sola suggests a break.
- The coach will not give diet, calorie or alcohol and drug advice, and some programs are hidden.
If Sola does not know your age, it uses the teen defaults.
Under 13
If you are under 13, you cannot use Sola. The app deletes what it stored on your phone and on our servers and shows a message instead.
Pacts
- Pacts are invite only, with up to 10 people. Invite links stop working after 7 days.
- Members only see the habits you choose to share, whether you did them each day, and your streak. They never see your journal or notes.
- You can report a member for an unkind name, harassment, spam or something else. Reports are saved so they can be looked at. They do not remove anyone on their own.
- You can leave a pact at any time. The person who made the pact can remove members. If they leave, the pact is deleted.
If someone in a pact makes you feel unsafe, leave the pact first. Then tell us at [email protected].
